1965 - 1997 Double Bearing Assembly
These double
bearings are MerCruiser p/n 31- 35988A2. They are used on all #1 MerCruiser drives made from 1965 to 1997 ( except 1.32
ratios) including
Pre-Alpha, Alpha One and Generation II drives serial #OK999999 and below.
Both sets of
these bearing are the same
Cup # 382A outside Dia. 3.813
Cone # 386A inside Dia. 1.875

These are used on
either gears which have a slip fit or gears which have a press fit. They come
from the factory with the 1/4" center spacer preset to give you 6 to 10 inch pounds of
preload.

- Date Gen 2 Bearings Only
These double
bearings are MerCruiser 31- 30894A1 Bearings. They are used on all Generation II
drives made from 1998 to Date serial #OL100040 and Up.
These bearings
and races are used on drive gears which have these bearings pressed onto the
gear. You can use your old large center spacer with these bearings only. You set the preload
on these bearings by how tight
you tighten the gear end locknut down drawing these 2 bearings together on the
oversized gear shaft diameter.
Both sets of
these bearing are the same
Cup # 25520 outside Dia. 3.265
Cone # 25580 inside Dia. 1.750

You cannot put
these bearings together and torque the nut down to 80 foot pounds.

Gen 2 Bearing Assy.
These double
bearings are MerCruiser 31- 30894A5 Bearings. They are used on all Generation II
drives made from 1998 to Date serial #OL100040 and Up.
These bearings
and races are used on drive gears which have these bearings pressed onto the
gear. This set comes with the center support spacer. You set the preload
on these bearings by how tight
you tighten the gear end locknut down drawing these 2 bearings together on the
oversized gear shaft diameter. These are the same bearings as shown above
except they come with the center support spacer which is not sold separately by
anyone.
You cannot put
these bearings together and torque the nut down to 80 foot pounds.

All Bravo's
This upper
housing double bearing assembly is MerCruiser
31- 86763A2. It is used on all Bravo drives.
These bearings
and races are used on drive gears which have these bearings pressed onto the
gear. This set comes with the center washer. You set the preload
on these bearings by how tight
you tighten the gear end locknut down drawing these 2 bearings together on the
oversized gear shaft diameter.
Both of these
bearing sets are different.
The first set to go into the upper housing is
Cup # 28621 outside Dia. 3.812
Cone # 28682 inside Dia. 2.249
The second set of
bearing to go in are
Cup # 383A outside Dia. 3.937
Cone # 387 inside Dia. 2.249
You cannot put
these bearings together and torque the nut down to 80 foot pounds.
